How Do I Know the Size of My Car Battery?

All vehicles require a specific size battery. You can find the correct BCI battery group size in your owner's manual or via an online search. The common battery size for the Grand Marquis is Group 65.

What CCA Battery Does My Car Need?

Cold Cranking Amps (CCAs) tell you how well an auto battery will perform in freezing weather. The higher the CCA rating, the better the battery will perform in the cold. You can find the recommended CCA rating for a Grand Marquis in your owner's manual.

Should I buy a Flooded or AGM Battery?

There are two different types of auto batteries: flooded and AGM:

Flooded Batteries

  • Have a lower upfront cost than AGM batteries
  • Are not fully sealed; some flooded batteries require you to maintain the electrolyte inside by periodically adding distilled water
  • Have shorter lifespans than AGM batteries

AGM Batteries

  • Have a higher upfront cost than flooded batteries
  • Are built to last 2-3X longer than a flooded battery - this makes an AGM battery a better investment in the long run
  • Are more powerful than flooded batteries, which makes it easier to start your engine in extreme hot and cold conditions
  • If your vehicle came from the factory with an AGM battery installed, you must replace it with another AGM battery

Mercury Grand Marquis FAQs

The typical lifespan of an auto battery is 3-5 years. Be sure to drive your vehicle regularly to maintain the battery's charge. If your Grand Marquis will be sitting idle for more than 4 weeks, consider using a battery maintainer to keep it from discharging.

The cost of replacing your battery will depend on the type of battery you select. Flooded batteries offer a more affordable upfront price. If you're looking to save money long-term, however, an AGM battery is the better option.

When your battery is dying, you will have a much harder time turning over your engine. A dying battery can also cause your headlights to appear dimmer or have a negative impact on the performance of other onboard technology.
