A quick note: Before 2011, Ram trucks were Dodge Ram trucks, with the make name before the model. After 2011, “Dodge” was dropped. This information will help you when searching for parts and accessories for your vehicle.

Batteries Plus is your destination for Ram 1500 replacement batteries. Are you wondering how you can tell if your Ram 1500 needs a new battery? Your Ram 1500 battery will probably last between 3 and 5 years. There are a number of signs that will tell you when your current battery is failing. A dying battery will have a much harder time turning over your Ram 1500's engine. As the battery gets worse, you may find yourself having to jump-start your truck in order to get the engine running. You can also take a look at the outside of the battery itself. If you notice a buildup of corrosion on the terminals, that's another sign that your battery might need to be replaced.

If your battery is older than 3 years old, or if you're experiencing any of the issues listed above, take your Ram 1500 truck to any Batteries Plus location. The associates there will test your battery for free and let you know if it's time to replace it. If you purchase a new truck battery from Batteries Plus, the majority of our locations offer expert battery installation on most Ram 1500 trucks.

Need help finding the correct battery for your Ram 1500 pickup truck? Like all cars and trucks, a Ram 1500 relies on a 12-volt auto battery. To find the correct battery size to fit your Ram 1500, look up the recommended BCI Group Size in your owner's manual. If you no longer have your owner's manual, there are a number of reference tools online that can help you identify the correct BCI Group Size.

After you've determined the correct size battery for your Ram 1500, you need to decide if you want a flooded, AGM or TPPL AGM battery. Flooded batteries (also known as STD batteries) are the most basic auto batteries available. They cost less upfront than other battery types and deliver reliable performance. Some flooded batteries may require you to periodically top off the electrolyte inside with distilled or deionized water.

AGM batteries cost more upfront than flooded batteries but offer greater performance for your Ram 1500. Unlike flooded batteries, AGM options are completely sealed, which means you don't have to top off the electrolyte inside. They give off a higher voltage, which makes them more reliable at starting your vehicle. AGM batteries also last longer than flooded batteries and perform better in extreme hot and cold. Some Ram 1500 models may require an AGM battery. If your truck currently has an AGM battery inside, don't downgrade to a flooded battery. Doing so will have a negative effect on your Ram 1500's performance.

Batteries Plus also offers our exclusive X2Power TPPL AGM batteries. X2Power is the best brand of battery for your Ram 1500 truck. These TPPL (Thin Plate Pure Lead) AGM batteries outperform both flooded and standard AGM batteries. An X2Power battery lasts roughly 3 times longer than a flooded battery and provides 100% starting power and 100% reserve power.

Ram 1500 FAQs

Ram 1500 trucks rely on 12-volt auto batteries. The exact size battery will vary depending on the size of your engine. Your owner's manual will provide you with the correct BCI Group Size battery for your Ram 1500. Once you know that, you can decide whether you want a flooded or AGM battery. Some Ram 1500 trucks may require an AGM battery, so don't downgrade to a flooded battery if your truck currently has an AGM battery under the hood.

Battery life is impacted by the type of battery you have, what climate it's typically used in and how well the battery is maintained. On average, you can expect a Ram 1500 battery to last 3-5 years. Extreme heat and cold temperatures can shorten a battery's lifespan. Also, AGM and TPPL AGM auto batteries have longer lifespans than standard flooded truck batteries.

Your Ram 1500 requires a 12-volt auto battery, the same as any other car or truck.
