How Do I Know the Size of My Car Battery?

  • You can find the correct battery group size   for your TSX in your owner's manual or by searching online
  • The battery size will appear as either a series of numbers (for example, Group 49) or numbers and a letter (like Group 51R)

How Many CCAs Should a Car Battery Have?

  • CCAs (cold cranking amps)   tell you how well a battery will perform in cold weather
  • The higher the CCA rating, the better the battery will perform in cold temperatures
  • Vehicle manufacturers provide a recommended CCA rating for every vehicle they produce
  • You can find the CCA rating for your Acura TSX in your owner's manual
  • If you live in a particularly cold area, you can purchase a battery with a higher CCA rating than your vehicle recommends, but don't buy one with a lower CCA rating

How Do I Know If My Car Battery is AGM or Flooded?

  • There are 2 types of auto batteries: flooded & AGM
  • Flooded batteries cost less than AGM batteries, but have shorter lifespans and may require additional maintenance
  • AGM batteries cost more upfront, but last longer, meaning you'll probably save money in the long run with an AGM battery
  • AGM batteries provide more power than flooded batteries, allowing you to start your engine more easily in extreme hot and cold weather.
  • AGM batteries are also designed to last 2-3X longer and recharge faster than a flooded battery
  • You can find out what type of battery you have by looking at the manufacturer's label, or by taking your vehicle to your nearest Batteries Plus location.

Can I Use a Flooded Battery Instead of AGM?

  • If your vehicle originally had an AGM installed when it came from the manufacturer, you must replace it with another AGM battery
  • If your vehicle originally had a flooded battery installed when it came from the manufacturer, you can replace it with another flooded battery, or upgrade to an AGM option

Acura TSX FAQs

When replacing the battery in a TSX, it's important to know what type of battery was originally installed. If your TSX came from the factory with an AGM battery installed, you must replace it with another AGM battery. If your TSX came with a flooded battery, you have the option of replacing it with either a flooded or AGM battery.

The cost of a replacement battery will depend on whether you select a flooded or AGM battery. Flooded batteries are more affordable upfront. However, since AGM batteries are designed to last longer, many people save money in the long run with an AGM battery.

The average lifespan of an Acura TSX battery is 3 to 5 years. Climate, battery type and your driving habits all play a role in how long your battery lasts. Read our blog "6 Things That Can Drain Your Car Battery  " for helpful tips on how to extend your battery's life.
