The GL450 uses the large BCI Group Size 49 battery. It's always best to verify what you need before making a purchase by looking under the hood, in the owner's manual or using our fitment finder.
The life of a battery in your GL450 will depend on its maintenance and use. Most batteries will last 3-5 years if they are properly maintained. However, if you neglect your battery and don't check for corrosion and clean the terminals with a terminal cleaner, it could need replacing much sooner.
The battery for the GL450 is located under the carpet beneath the front passenger seat. Removing and replacing the battery in the GL450 is a very labor-intensive project and should not be attempted by those uncomfortable working with vehicles.
Many GL450s have a second battery known as an auxiliary battery. This battery powers electronic systems like stop-start and other systems that operate when the vehicle engine is off. This battery is also located under the front passenger seat, behind the main battery and should be replaced at the same time to save time and money.
